Nisswa kicks off the holiday season the day after Thanksgiving on November 26, 2010 with our 29th annual Nisswa City of Lights celebration. Activities for this evening start at 2:30 pm with Horse Drawn Wagon Rides around town. Santa is coming to make an early appearance in the Nisswa Square from 2:30 until 4:30 pm. The Polar Express Storytelling is a new activity this year, which will be held in the train caboose on Main Street. Storytelling times are at 3 pm and 4:30 pm. Make sure to check out the Pioneer Village with the Brook View Alpacas, free hot apple cider and donut holes, crafts presented by the Black Bear 4-H Club, storytelling, and new this year is a living nativity scene presented the St. Christopher’s youth group. Also, enjoy other activities around town such as community Christmas carolers, face painting, storytelling, and live music. Come enjoy the lighting of the town at precisely 5:29 pm, which is aired live on KLKS. We are continuing tradition this year with the “Love Lights a Tree” ceremony at 5:35 pm, where names of loved ones are read aloud. All proceeds for “Love Lights a Tree” go directly to help support the Good Samaritan Society Home Care and Hospice. Santa Claus makes his grand appearance arriving on a big red fire truck to the gazebo where he will greet all the children and hand out candy canes. “Erika Lights up the Sky” Fireworks winter display concludes the evening and a big thank you to the Rempe Family for their donation year after year! Remember to purchase your blinking snowman for $3 at the chamber building and various Nisswa shops. Shop Nisswa All Year Long!!
