The first Nisswa Viking Festival will be held August 24, 2019 in the Nisswa Pioneer Village. This exciting event will be family-friendly and designed to be both entertaining and educational.
Travel back in time as you walk through an encampment from the Viking Age (700-1066 AD). Professional and local reenactors will demonstrate crafts from the period such as leatherwork, blacksmithing, chain mail making, spring-pole lathe work, open fire cooking, archery, board game construction, jewelry making, and fiber arts such as spinning and weaving.
You'll have opportunities to try your hand at several crafts, play Viking games, learn a dance, and listen to a storyteller. A children’s area will provide kids with hands-on experiences specifically for them.
The Vikings will also demonstrate the weapons they used and participate in mock battle. They’ll engage the audience in a variety of ways, which may include cheering for a champion or allowing self-selected kids to push over a line of Vikings arrayed behind a shield wall.
